Building My Personal Portfolio Website: A Two-Year Journey
From initial concepts to a polished showcase of work and services.
Early Beginnings
Two and a half years ago, I began developing my personal portfolio website, aiming to stand out before starting the Independent Game Development program at DAE. The goal was to create a unique, professional space to showcase my work somewhere online.
Experimentation and Storytelling
Over time, I experimented with different animations, 3D renders, and atmospheric storytelling through backgrounds. Early concepts included a neon-lit environment, horror-inspired scenes, and dynamic office backgrounds (see image & main portfolio page), designed to subtly communicate my creative spirit.
Refinement and Focus
After testing multiple designs, I realized I was going a little too far and that simplicity would showcase the projects better. The final background environment features a realistic workspace with natural lighting and subtle storytelling cues, reflecting my personal work environment (not the bloody one!!) without distracting from the main content.
Completing the Vision
Despite balancing a lot of coursework and other projects, I committed to finishing the portfolio for a school assignment. The result is a polished, functional site with a personal portfolio, full project catalogue, gig offerings, blog section, and contact system, combining my technical and artistic skills to create something I'm truly proud of.
Continuous Evolution
While the site is in a state I consider 'done', a portfolio like this is never truly finished. I'll continue refining elements, improving the mobile experience, and adding new content as I go. It's a living reflection of my growth as a developer and digital artist.
