The Artisans Desk was created for the Game Art 1 course in DAE, Howest. Its a Game-Ready 3D-Model of a messy Artisans Desk, following given theme and profession for the owner of the desk. With two seperate DnD dice throws, I landed on the combination of Blood (1) Pastry Chef (2). Hearing blood, I immediately thought of some Ancient Civilizations like the Aztecs, Pagans, and Egyptians. Given a bit more research, I found out that the Egyptians were the first to bake break, making it a perfect fit for the theme.

The Artisans Desk combines all sorts of elements that are related to the Egyptian culture, from building with sandstone and decorating it with gold & hyroglyphs, to the mariad of different pastries that are baked, and the tools they used for their harvesting.

But next to the phyical realm there was the spiritual one, where the Egyptians held sacred blood rituals to honor their gods and goddesses by offering them blood sacrifices.

The most worthy gift of giving to the gods was a human heart, which was believed to be the source of life. So my idea was to combine the two, by creating a pastry out of a heart, which is being offered to the gods as a sacrifice.

But whos hart is it? I tried adding a bit of depth to the story by adding a written note with a turquoise ring next to it on the desk. The desk belongs to a nobel pastry chef, whos wife had cheated on him with a peasant. He stole her ring and baked the peasants heart in a pastry, and left it on the desk as a reminder of his heartbreak and betrayal.

Hidden underneath the desk is a stove, which is used to bake the pastries. Much like how the ancient Egyptians did it, placing pots filled with dough on top of hot coals to bake them.
