Grindy is a 3D Hero Model of a robot created for the Game Art 2 course in DAE, Howest. After throwing two DnD dices, I got the combination of a Gardening Robot (profession) created by Joes Rusty Garage Robots (company). I first got the idea for this epic story of a rogue scarecrow robot designed to keep your garden safe that is now killing people, but I figured it would be too far fetched for the assignment so I chose something more approachable instead. Meet Grindy, the gardening robot who disposes (eats) all of your green waste. Its big mouth fits all of your leaves, grass and branches, and using its plumbing feet it can crawl on any surface!

I wanted Grindy to look and feel like a crazy robot, which is why I combined both sharp (unfriendly) and round (friendly) shapes and made its body follow a (somewhat) downward triangular shape, making it feel unstable. Its quick movements and big mouth with a bunch of rotating teeth makes it feel crazy and dangerous.
Like I said before, I started with a crazy scarecrow robot concept, but with a bit of extra careful thinking, I decided to conceptualize three different gardening robot designs before jumping to any conclusions. The three ideas I came up with are a Scarecrow, a cute Peanut inspired gardener, and the original Grindy!

As a gardening robot its good to have several tools to your disposal, so I gave Grindy two unique arms; one excavator arm to dig up the ground and a vacuum arm to suck up all of your green waste.
Grindy can even take care of your dog house!
